Sizing calculators

First-pass sizing for filters, thickeners and lime slakers. These use the same arithmetic we use, so the answer you get here is the answer we start from — then we confirm it against a leaf or pilot test before anything goes in an offer.

Filter area from throughput

Area = dry solids rate ÷ filtration rate. The filtration rate comes from a leaf test; the ranges below are typical starting points.

Drum speed and cake thickness

Cake per revolution is the output rate divided by revolutions per hour. Submergence sets how much of each turn is available to form it.

Vacuum pump duty

Air drawn through a formed cake governs pump size. Typical specific air rates: 0.5 m³/min·m² for tight cakes, 1.5 for free-filtering.

Thickener diameter and torque

Diameter from unit area (from a settling test), torque from the trade convention T = K × D², with K set by the duty class.

Lime slaker duty

Detention slaker: water on ratio control, chamber sized on retention time.

Turn a result into an enquiry

Fill in a calculator, then send the numbers with your slurry description. We will size it properly against a test and come back with an offer.

What these will not do. They will not tell you whether your slurry filters at all, what cake moisture you will actually reach, or whether a filter is even the right machine. Those come from a leaf test on your material. What they will do is get you to the right order of magnitude before you pick up the phone — and stop you being sold a machine three sizes too big.
